St. Augustine said, “to sing a hymn is to have prayed twice.” How true! We are blessed to have dedicated groups of volunteers who participate in the ministry at St. Joseph.

Please consider sharing your gifts with the parish.

The Saint Joseph Choir, accompanied by pipe organ, sings at 10:00 a.m. Mass every Sunday except for the first Sunday of the month during the school year. Practices are at 8:45 a.m. on Sunday mornings in the St. Joe School music room. We sing a mixture of hymns and plainchant in English with occasional Latin, particularly during the seasons of Advent and Lent. Contact Matt Nelson if you have any questions, or simply join us for a rehearsal before Sunday Mass! The choir is open to adults and to children who have learned to read. Must be able to match pitch, but no other previous choir or singing experience is required.

Cantors lead the congregation in song during the Saturday Vigil Mass at 5:00 p.m. on a rotating basis, accompanied by the pipe organ. Contact Matt Nelson if you are interested in joining the rotation. If you don’t want to sing by yourself, duets or groups of 3-4 are welcome as well!

Organists and pianists are welcome to share their talents with the parish. Contact Matt Nelson if interested. Matt is happy to train interested pianists on the pipe organ and accompanying singers.

The Hispanic Choir, coordinated by James Edward Velez, plays music at the Mass in Spanish each Sunday. Contact James Velez, Hispanic Ministry Coordinator, if you are interested in joining.
